Holiday for Hope Event 2010
2010-12-03 00:00
The “Holiday for Hope” event is an annual initiative in collaboration with Dreams for kids, an organization in the US, which intends to put six communities of Ngambe-Tikar in Cameroon in the world map. It was launched on December 1, 2010, and the TechCeFaCos team will organize a Christmas party for all kids at these communities by organizing leisure activities such as games, songs, drawing and painting, and a special meal involving the kids, their parents, the local leaders and representatives and outside observers.
This project seeks to provide to their beneficiaries the means and tools to improve their livelihood and help them to embrace the responsibility and sustainable conditions for the upcoming generations.
It has five major key components:
1 – De-worming children and creating healthy practices and education policies;
2 – Building water wells through the application of water-supply good practices in accordance to the needs of Ngambe-Tikar community;
3 – Shelter initiative;
4 – Educational policy and strategies involving all levels of community’s agents and requiring a strong field-action network;
5 – The sponsor a child/school initiative.
The ultimate aim is to break the intergenerational cycle of chronic poverty.
How can a single event make a difference?
Contrary to developed countries where offering a gift to a child could represent a hard task as we have to list all engines, toys, clothes, games, handsets, etc that they already have, in Cameroon, especially in the Ngambe-Tikar communities, it is very easy: they need everything and they will be joyful with a shirt, shoes, a coat, trousers, all kinds of toys and food!
Each of us can remember the first moment of something. The first time we saw a roller-coaster, a horse, chocolate, a puzzle, a movie,… It was the beginning or the continuity of our knowledge and growing-up path. For these kids in the Ngambe-Tikar communities, this event represents an opportunity to eat a different meal, to play, to learn and to get conscious about more than their small and deprived world.
Thus we can say that a single day can grow to a lifetime commitment. Organizations can be developed. Movements can begin. A difference can happen.
Ngambe–Tikar Community
A high percentage of the Ngambe–Tikar community are living below the poverty level due to high level of illiteracy and poor health condition. There are a high number of dropouts from school, lack of clean water, good in fractures and proper housing which lead to rise of illness. Lack of sex education leads to high population and the spread of sexually-related diseases. However, the project aims to work on a long-term basis by engaging children, their families and communities to play leading roles in its implementation, along side with others partners and the Government.
The main vision is to empower the young generation (which are tomorrow’s leaders), through the provision of basic needs, good hygiene, education, shelter and water. We are looking forward to uplift the community from the poverty level, which will have great impact on the economy through motivating them by providing for their basic needs.SO COME AND JOIN US IN THIS EVENT!
We also welcome any donations that you can give to us.
